Descend the castle. Die permanently. Leave something behind.

Heirloom is a procedural platformer roguelike. Every heir of a fallen house descends the same ancestral castle to reclaim what was lost, and every heir dies there. Death is permanent, but the gold a fallen heir banked carries over and buys upgrades for the next one, so the castle gets a little easier to survive each time you come back.

What's included:

  • Six heir classes: the Knight blocks, the Duelist dashes through enemies, the Scout shoots arrows, the Warden breaks reinforced walls, the Cleric heals, and the Alchemist throws bombs.
  • One or two of 17 traits roll onto every heir, and they stack.
  • Seven enemy types plus two bosses, the Guardian and the Fallen Ancestor.
  • A Keep between runs: spend the gold your heirs banked on permanent upgrades and on unlocking more of the roster.
  • Eight hand-built rooms dealt in a random order each run, with a boss at depths 5 and 10, and difficulty that keeps climbing the deeper you go.
  • No sound or music.

Controls: the mouse to choose an heir and to shop in the Keep; in the castle, A/D or the arrow keys to move, Space or Up to jump, J to attack, K to block (the Knight), L to dash (once unlocked in the Keep; the Duelist starts with it), hold Shift to walk.

Windows download. Unzip it and run Heirloom.exe, no launcher or account required. The game isn't code-signed, so the first time you run it, Windows may say it protected your PC from an unrecognized app. Click "More info", then "Run anyway".

Made by King Coding, a one-person studio working with an AI assistant. The AI wrote the code and the text, and drew the characters and castle rooms as simple shapes in code. I shaped and approved all of it.
